To Burn or Not to Burn?

In the early years of our national parks system, fire was seen as something that destroyed scenic beauty and wildlife. By the 1960s, land managers noticed ingrown forests, decreased wildlife habitat, and forests more susceptible to outbreaks of insects and disease, and at greater risk of catastrophic wildfire.

Join Parks Canada Fire and Vegetation specialist Jed Cochrane in an interactive presentation highlighting current fire management strategy, including: prescribed fire, wildfire management, and forest health best practices. Through photos, videos and first-hand account, Jed will take you through the science and decision making to answer the question of to burn or not to burn.
