Oscar Cahén: Canada's Groundbreaking Illustrator
Whyte Museum
On loan from the Cahén Archives is a rare glimpse into a nationally significant and culturally important collection of work by an artist whose genius was forestalled by his early death, in 1956 at age 40. The exhibition is the first retrospective of work by Oscar Cahén and features the artist’s illustrations dating from 1931 to 1956. Of Cahén’s work, veteran art critic and author Paul Duval wrote, "Cahén’s early death may well have robbed Canada of its potentially greatest painter. No one in this country has ever shown a more complete command of the expressive resources of an artist.". Included with admission
