The Canadian Rockies becomes a mecca for ice climbers during a full weekend of activities celebrating the sport of ice climbing. The MEC Ice Climbing Festival will be held over 2 days during SnowDays for the first time in the heart of Banff.
The Banff Avenue Ice Wall, a grandiose sight to see in itself, will operate as the hub for all festival components. Watch a demo or take a clinic for beginners with the skilled experts from Yamnuska Mountain Adventures. For the more adventurous climbers, clinics are also offered on waterfalls in the surrounding area. MEC's "dry land" clinics help broaden your knowledge about avalanche awareness, choosing the right gear, and the best ice routes in the Canadian Rockies.
Partaking in clinic's provide more than just an exceptional experience. Clinic participants will also receive a free ticket to the Climbers Access Society of Alberta(CASA) fundraiser and mixer on Saturday evening. However, everyone is welcome to join this MEC sponsored event. The evening highlights a series of speakers as well as a silent auction with all proceeds going to CASA.
Scope the latest in ice gear in the parking lot adjacent to the Ice Wall. MEC and associated gear vendors will be present, as well as guiding outfits, access organisations, and local clubs. Or demo some of the best gear out there from MEC, Yamnuska, Black Diamond and Petzl while available for use on the wall or in a clinic.
Enter the Ice Climbing Competition and see how you stack up. A wide variety of competition categories are available, from fastest up, to best costume.
This festival is jam-packed with fun activities that any climber, amateur or professional, or spectator can enjoy.
