Banff, Alberta, Canada (September 13, 2011) – Fans of The Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra’s Mozart on the Mountain performances can rejoice once again as the glorious sounds of classical music return to the Rocky Mountains on September 17 in Banff’s spectacular new, outdoor Shaw Amphitheatre.
With a forecast calling for sunny skies this weekend, music-lovers will have to hurry to purchase tickets for the highly anticipated performance of Calgary’s acclaimed orchestra in the magnificent mountain setting.
The Shaw Amphitheatre is perched high on Tunnel Mountain, nestled within The Banff Centre campus and overlooks the town of Banff with long views of the Bow Valley. Featuring the latest in lighting, sound, and digital technologies, audiences will be delighted by what is surely one of the most beautiful outdoor performance venues in the world.
“The natural acoustics of The Banff Centre's new Shaw Amphitheatre provide the perfect venue for the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra (CPO) to perform classical favourites,” said Ann Lewis-Luppino, President & CEO of the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra. “It’s a very moving experience to see the orchestra perform outdoors in such an inspiring and glorious setting.”
This weekend’s event, Classical Banff: A Symphony of Taste, led by resident conductor Mélanie Léonard, will present a popular program of music including Tchaikovsky’s Finale from Symphony No. 4, Beethoven’s Symphony No. 6 “Pastoral,” and Aaron Copland’s Fanfare for the Common Man. The performance will also feature one of Canada’s most celebrated and award-winning cellists, Shauna Rolston, as she returns to her hometown to accompany CPO musicians on works by Saint-Saëns and Fauré.
Special dining and cultural packages are available for the visiting audience to make a day or weekend of the event. Along with tickets for the performance itself, featured packages are also available including a special pre-show reception with CPO Music Director Roberto Minczuk, special VIP seating, and a post-show dining experience. The weekend’s performance is presented in partnership by The Banff Centre, The Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra, and Banff Lake Louise Tourism.
