Sulphur Mountain Cosmic Ray Station National Historic Site of Canada

The Sulphur Mountain cosmic ray station was part of the International Geophysical Year (1957-1958); a major undertaking to study cosmic rays involving 66 countries, 99 stations worldwide and a dozen scientific disciplines.

The advantage offered by the high elevation on Sulphur Mountain made this the most significant of the Canadian monitoring stations. The station closed in 1978 and the building dismantled in 1981.
