Canoeing & Kayaking

Sparkling blue waters, which gently lap on the shores of alpine lakes or run their course as rivers through the valley bottoms, are perfect for gaining a unique view of the surrounding landscape.

Canoeing and kayaking are family-friendly activities, and provide you with a peaceful activity to enjoy on a morning or afternoon during your stay in Banff National Park. Exploring by boat gives you the chance to visit corners of these lakes and waterways that can’t be accessed by trail!

If you have your own boat (non-motorized), you can put in at many of the alpine lakes in Banff National Park. Local favourites include Johnson Lake, Two Jack Lake, Vermilion Lakes and Bow Lake. Otherwise, boat rentals are available at various locations in the park.

Canoe and Kayak Rentals

Canoes and kayaks can be rented from the Blue Canoe docks on the Bow River in Banff, at Lake Louise and Moraine Lake. Motorboats are only permitted at Lake Minnewanka and are available for rental by the hour or half-day.
