New to hiking or backpacking? Eager to learn more about the regions you’ll be exploring on foot? Consider hiring a certified hiking guide in Banff National Park!
Hiking guides offer an element of safety and experience to a hike of any level, whether you’re going out for a few hours or on an overnight backpacking trip. Even when navigation and safety is of little concern, guides can offer great stories and interpretation about the local area, history, wildlife and flora.
Banff Heritage Tourism Guided Hikes
Join a certified guide on an interpretive hike up Tunnel Mountain, a local’s favourite! On this hike you will learn about the flora and fauna unique to the area, how Tunnel Mountain got its name, interesting historical stories, how to equip yourself for further hiking adventures, and much more.
Tunnel Mountain is rated as an easy hike, gaining 260 metres in elevation over a gradual incline and switchbacks, and leads to great views of Mt. Rundle, the Town of Banff, the Bow River and more.
Hikes depart: Noon on Sundays through July and August. Meet at 11:45am in Banff Avenue Square (208 Banff Avenue, across from the Grizzly House).
Length: 2.5 hours return trip (260m elevation gain).
Cost: $5 per person. (Can be paid to the guide directly on the day of the hike.)
Up to 15 people are permitted per hike. Participants must be a minimum of 8 years old.
Participants are encouraged to register in advance. If space permits, however, you may join on the day of the hike by meeting at the starting point in Banff Avenue Square.
