Fishing
The stunning alpine lakes of Banff National Park are full of fish and just waiting for you to cast a line. This peaceful yet thrilling activity is enhanced by the beauty of the peaks that surround the magnificent bodies of water. Wonderful fishing opportunities are available almost year-round, and can be explored on your own or with the help of a knowledgeable guide.
A national park fishing license is required for fishing in Banff National Park. Popular locations for unguided fishing include the Bow River, Lake Minnewanka, Two Jack Lake and Bow Lake!
Guided Fishing Trips
Summer
Fishing is a superb activity for families or friends looking for a memorable day spent out in the fresh mountain air. Once the waters melt in Banff National Park, chartered fishing boats can take you out into deep water while fly fishing gives you the chance to wade deep for a great catch. Choose from half-day, full day or multi-day guided fishing trips, which include equipment, permits, transportation and meals.
Winter
Ice fishing, offered December through April, is located on the beautiful Spray Lakes in Kananaskis Country, just outside Banff National Park. Relax in heated huts on the ice while you fish for trout and white fish. Your guides will even cook your catch on-site for a shoreline lunch. All fishing gear, equipment and warm winter clothes are provided.
