Banff Heritage Tourism

This is a destination with some depth. Banff National Park has something that is becoming increasingly rare and more valuable in the world – an authentic culture grounded in nature. It’s a distinction that sets us apart from other destinations.

Heritage Tourism is a significant component of in-resort services that contributes to an enriched visitor experience - creating life-long supporters and users of our national park. It is our responsibility to lead and support businesses and organizations in creating experiences, products, and services that celebrate our history, nature and culture, thereby contributing to the economic health of our community. Banff Heritage Tourism was specifically created to further these goals.

Banff Heritage Tourism has evolved through the efforts of the community to develop and implement the heritage tourism principles first set out in the 1996 Banff - Bow Valley Study. Out of this study came the Heritage Tourism Strategy which:

Ensures residents and visitors know why Banff National Park is a special place and part of a World Heritage Site by:

  • encouraging products and services that create memorable experiences unique to Banff National Park
  • supporting stewardship and sustainability initiatives in Banff National Park
  • helping staff be informed ambassadors for Banff National Park to enrich their own experience and to better share our nature, history & culture with visitors

Banff Heritage Tourism Vision Statement

That every visitor experiences, and is inspired by, the authentic heritage of Banff National Park
