Banff Culture Walk
On August 8 and 9, 2009, the streets of Banff came alive with art and culture with the annual Banff Culture Weekend. This event combined numerous activities, Banff Culture Walk, Open Air Cinema and Doors Open Banff, and provided opportunities for visitors and locals to visit the area’s most interesting historical and cultural attractions.
Numerous events took place all weekend long. On Saturday, Banff Culture Walk provided a variety of town-wide special events, including an opportunity to meet and interact with artists at various different locations and galleries. One such event was “Dynamic Demo Day" at the Canada House Gallery where the public was welcome to watch six renowned artists work and talk to them about their inspirations and techniques.
On Saturday night, there was a free outdoor showing of the film "A River of No Return" starring Marilyn Monroe which was filmed in and around Banff in 1953.
On Sunday, Doors Open Banff invited visitors and local residents to step back in time to peek into some of Banff’s most interesting heritage homes and buildings. Experience the cultural, social, environmental, and spiritual evolution of Banff by taking a self-guided walking tour of over 15 featured properties.
Banff Culture Weekend is an annual event and is open to everyone and most events are free to the public. The hub of activity all weekend long is the Bison Courtyard located at 211 Bear Street. The event is designed to be a self-guided walking tour with a complete schedule of events and venues available online at www.banffculturewalk.com or www.banff.ca. Banff Culture Weekend is a heritage tourism event hosted by Banff Heritage Tourism, Banff Heritage Corporation, Doors Open Banff and Banff Culture Walk partners.
