Cave and Basin National Historic Site of Canada

"It's like some fantastic dream from a tale of the Arabian Nights" exclaimed William McCardell after seeing the cave for the first time. This remarkable discovery set into motion a series of events that would lead to the creation of Banff National Park and Canada's national park system in 1885. Today, the original bathing pavilion, emerald coloured Cave and Basin springs, exhibits and guided tours recount the fascinating history of discovery and former splendor of the site. Interpretive boardwalk trails allow you to discover the original cave opening, home of a very special snail found nowhere else in the world and the stunning natural beauty of the area.
