Sightseeing & Self Guided Tours

They are sights beyond belief. Picture jagged stone ridges and mountain tops that were formed millions of years ago and left behind as an ancient ocean receded west. Blue glaciers hang suspended over turquoise-coloured alpine lakes and in Banff National Park, the wilderness seems to go on forever.

Learning about the geology of the Canadian Rockies is one thing, but then there’s the wildlife sighting and the cultural history to absorb. Aboriginal natives, European and American adventurers, and visitors from all over the world, have visited Lake Louise and Banff and left with a new perspective on life.

One of the most relaxing ways to soak it all in is by signing up for a guided sightseeing tour. It can be on a bus or by horseback, in a canoe, or even while snowshoeing through the winter forest in Lake Louise. Friendly certified sightseeing guides are experts on the historic facts, quirky legends and perhaps even an idea for another adventure.

Independent types who like to be on their own schedule can easily navigate the paved and well marked roads and highways to get to the next historic site, fabulous photography viewpoint or “don’t miss” attraction. Check with the information centres in Banff and Lake Louise for recommendations and maps.
