New Banff restaurant launches in time for visitors’ return

A new restaurant that had its grand opening plans in mid-April halted due to the pandemic has now opened for delivery and takeout. Located in one of the only buildings on Banff Avenue that has a historical designation, The Radiant is Banff’s newest, family-owned restaurant, parlour and lounge, which offers boutique cocktails, drinks and a dynamic menu of shareable food options.
“Right up until March 17 we were working so hard to get everything open and the next day we got the news about the lockdown,” said B Watson, co-owner, The Radiant. “It took us the weekend to recover from that news!”
“There was a moment where it was a little touch and go, like a lot of businesses in town. Because we hadn’t opened yet, we didn’t have to shut down and rejig things to reopen.”
While the venue is currently closed to guests, The Radiant launched its takeout and delivery program on May 29. The menu, which will be refreshed weekly, offers a selection of curries, stews, soups, bread, and pastries. Watson says the culinary team is committed to making what they can from scratch and is sourcing products carefully.
The venue features a stage for live entertainment in a space that is both comfortable and audacious. With design nods to early 20th Century American Art Deco, the venue will offer visitors and locals the chance to linger and indulge, as restrictions are lifted.
The Radiant is owned and operated by a group of friends and colleagues that call the Bow Valley home, as well as by the Harmon family, a multi-generational Banff family that owns and manages the Harmons building where The Radiant is located. 
“Our initial vision was to create a space on Banff Avenue and we thought we’d be able to have people to create this for us. What COVID has shown us is that the community starts with ourselves.”

Orders for cold delivery in Banff or Canmore can be placed in advance online. Takeout orders can be made by calling 403-985-0730 or in person by dropping by. Watson advised to stay tuned for information about a dine-in option in late June.
