Lake Louise

Lake Louise draws visitors from around the world with its remarkable turquoise waters and mountain scenery. Set beneath Victoria Glacier, the lake's distinctive colour comes from glacial rock flour, fine particles of sediment carried into the water by glacial melt. As sunlight reflects off these suspended particles, the lake takes on its vivid hue.

Named after Princess Louise Caroline Alberta, the fourth daughter of Queen Victoria, Lake Louise has captivated travellers for more than a century. Its accessibility, year-round beauty, and dramatic setting make it one of the most sought-after destinations in the Canadian Rockies.

Moraine Lake

Moraine Lake is celebrated for its spectacular setting in the Valley of the Ten Peaks, where towering mountain summits rise directly from the shoreline. Fed by glaciers and snowmelt, the lake's striking blue-green waters create one of the most photographed landscapes in Canada.

Its limited seasonal access from June through October adds to its appeal. For many visitors, seeing Moraine Lake in person is a bucket-list experience and a highlight of their trip to Banff National Park.

Travel Trade Tip

Encourage clients to visit Lake Louise and Moraine Lake in the same day. Advance planning is essential, as personal vehicles are not permitted at Moraine Lake and parking at Lake Louise is extremely limited. Shuttles and guided tours are the best way to access both lakes, and transportation should be booked well in advance. Moraine Lake is closed from October to May.

How to Get to Lake Louise and Moraine Lake

Transportation planning is one of the most important considerations when visiting Lake Louise and Moraine Lake. Both lakes experience significant demand during the summer months – advance planning is strongly recommended for both locations, particularly Moraine Lake which is only accessible from June through October, and personal vehicles are prohibited from the access road.
