Buffalo Nations Luxton Museum

Buffalo Nations Luxton Museum

The Buffalo Nations Museum founded by Norman Luxton in 1953 is one of Alberta’s oldest museums, a remarkable building and environment to educate about First Nations’ cultures. Celebrate and follow the up–to-date accounts of the return of the buffalo to Banff National Park, signings of the Buffalo Treaty, and what buffalo mean to the indigenous peoples. The Museum invites all people to share their culture within these sacred walls, because we are all treaty people. From July to September, the Museum hosts, for the first time in Canada, the travelling “Bison Exhibit,” a large interactive display of artefacts and activities that explore the significance, past, present, and future, of this great North American mammal. Take pictures, dance, play music, and participate in weekly shows demonstrating authentic traditions and storytelling and feel the power of your participation. Hours Summer (May – September) 10 am -7 pm Winter (October – April) 11 am - 5 pm
