Book Talk - Bohdan S. Kordan: No Place Like Home – Enemy Alien Internment in Canada during the Great War

Join The Whyte for the Banff launch of No Place Like Home: Enemy Alien Internment in Canada during the Great War by historian Bohdan S. Kordan. Drawing on local and national records, this talk examines the forced labour and internment of immigrants during the Great War, asking us to reflect on historical questions of justice, identity, and what it means to belong.

Shortlisted for the national Kobzar Book Award, Kordan examines the history of Ukrainian and Austro-Hungarian immigrants who were targeted during the Great War. This research has a strong local focus, utilizing regional archives to share the history of the internment camp at the base of Castle Mountain and its lasting connection to the Bow Valley.

Drinks and light snacks will be available before and after the event.

This stop on the national speaking tour is made possible through the generous support of the Shevchenko Foundation, the Canadian First World War Internment Recognition Fund, and McGill-Queen's University Press.

Admission: This sponsored event is free to attend, with a suggested museum donation.

Registration: Space is limited; please RSVP through our ticketing website to secure your spot.
