Bike Tunnel Mountain Road
Starting and ending right from downtown Banff is one of the best road cycling loops around. The Tunnel Mountain Road ride departs from the paved path paralleling Banff Avenue and climbs steadily uphill on a beloved local leg-burner.
The rewards of this uphill grind come pretty quickly, starting at the eye-catching geological formation known as the Hoodoos. From here the road is a cyclist’s dream, curving gently up, down and around Tunnel Mountain. For some, the best part is the views along the way, and for others it’s the feeling of cruising downhill into town and a well-deserved patio beverage.

Local Tips
This loop can be completed in either direction, but we recommend going clockwise to maximize the vistas.
Be prepared to share the road, especially near Tunnel Mountain Campground where vehicles are entering and exiting.
Give yourself some extra time to get off the bike and explore Surprise Corner. We won’t say more than that – you’ll know when you’re there!
