Outdoor Adventures
Banff & Lake Louise has plenty of safe and fun outdoor adventures for kids of all ages. There’s endless fun to be had outdoors in Banff National Park, including hiking and walking, gondola rides, tubing, skating, rafting & canoeing, and biking.
Ideas for Summer Family Adventures
Pack a picnic and start the day with a hike. Johnston Canyon is a family favourite with two trail options: the short 20 minute stroller-friendly hike to the lower waterfalls, and the 45 minute hike to the upper falls for families with older children. Another good hiking option is the Fenland Trail near Vermilion Lakes, an easy trail with no elevation gain and lovely woods and waterways to explore. For older kids, a hike up Tunnel Mountain will burn off some energy and offer sweet views over the town of Banff and valley.
In the afternoon, take a gondola up to the alpine for spectacular views of the Rocky Mountains. Have a hot chocolate at the top before enjoying the ride back down. Rent bikes and cruise along the Banff Legacy Trail; take a float trip down the river, check out some of Banff & Lake Louise’s museums or join a guided sightseeing tour for an educational and fun family adventure. Once the sun goes down, find a secluded spot, lay a blanket down and see how many shooting stars you can spot.
There is no shortage of safe and accessible adventures to explore with your family.
IDEAS FOR WINTER FAMILY ADVENTURES
If your kids are into skiing or snowboarding, the ski resorts are close to town and suitable for kids of all ages and abilities. Tubing and tobogganing is another great way to enjoy the snowy slopes. Other popular winter activities for families include ice skating, snowshoeing, dogsledding, sleigh rides, and of course, making snowmen and snowball fights.
After burning off some energy outdoors, check out the many museums in town, go bowling, or try out the indoors water park or climbing gym.
