RBC GranFondo Banff

RBC GranFondo Banff

August 19, 2017

Every year for just one day, thousands of cyclists converge on the roadways of Banff without a car in sight. The only GranFondo to take place entirely within the boundaries of a National Park, riders pedal through the stunning Canadian Rockies alongside thousands of other cyclists in this mass participation cycling event. The RBC GranFondo will appeal to any level of cyclist, whether you’re a seasoned pro or a new rider entering your first event. Ride at your own pace, take in the incredible sights, and make friends along the course as you complete the ride together.

New friends, quiet mountain roads, wildlife, fresh air… what could be better – Doug Smith of GranFondo Canada

Offered in 150 km and 90 km distances, the course is estimated to take from four to eight hours for most riders. Starting in the town of Banff, riders make their way around the punchy climbs and speedy descents of Tunnel Mountain. They’ll ride back through Banff’s town centre and then enter the Bow Valley Parkway as they’re cheered on by spectators. Here, the climbs and descents are more gradual, and the riders are treated to incredible scenery, wildlife sightings along the course, and, best of all, nearly complete silence.

Don’t be deterred by over a hundred kilometres of cycling – you’ll forget about how tired your legs are as you gaze upon the mountains and chat with the riders next to you. And, there are multiple rest stops around the course so you can re-fuel and rehydrate before the next climb. The ride ends with a complimentary massage, cool beverage, and a party as you celebrate with the thousands of other riders and spectators.

Held on August 19th, 2017, registration is limited to 1500 participants. Sign-up as an individual rider, bring your family and friends to cheer you on, and make friends on the course. Or, register as a team for an unforgettable ride with friends.

This world class cycling event would not be possible without some road closures along the route in the early hours of the day. For details on all Traffic Impacts, click here .  Stop by the Finish line or Celebration Plaza in Central Park to cheer on riders as they finish their epic ride!
