Cross-Country Ski Moraine Lake Road
One of Banff National Park’s best-known destinations is completely transformed in the winter, and some locals would tell you they like it better this way. The views over the Valley of the Ten Peaks are stunning with a snowy layer on top, and they’re saved for skiers willing to make the trip up on foot.
It’s easy to do that when the wide trail is trackset and groomed for skate-skiing, and the higher elevation preserves the quality of the snow. The trails climbs gently uphill over about 9 km to a viewpoint and a fun cruise back downhill.

Local Tips
Bring an extra layer or even a small foam pad to use as an insulated seat. Trust us – when you reach the viewpoint at the end of the trail, you’ll want to stay a while!
It’s tempting to take up both sets of tracks, but they’re intended for two-way traffic.
Beyond the end of the tracks there is significant avalanche hazard and travel is not recommended.
