Paddle Lake Minnewanka
Exploring Banff’s largest lake on your own strength and power is a revitalizing thrill. Gliding away from the dock in a canoe or kayak, you might well find yourself feeling very small in the magnitude of the landscape. Rightly so – Lake Minnewanka extends through the mountains for 21 km and reaches depths of nearly 150 metres. Wave to the hikers on the shoreline as you take in a different perspective, one normally reserved for the waterfowl that float alongside you.
Parks Canada is taking steps to help care for some of Banff National Park’s most sensitive bodies of water. To protect Lake Minnewanka, fishing with waders or wading boots as well as paddling and large inflatables are prohibited. Additionally, all motorized watercrafts must pass a Parks Canada Inspection prior to launching. For more information, visit the Parks Canada website.
