Lake Louise

Discover Iconic Lake Louise

You have seen photos of the lake but they haven’t prepared you for how it feels to experience it yourself. Rounding the corner, the sight of the emerald green water and rugged peaks and glaciers hits you viscerally. You’ve never seen anything so dramatically beautiful. Late in the day, with the glowing sun dropping behind Mount Victoria, it is quiet and still. As you wander around the lakeside path it seems like the whole scene is for just you to enjoy. It is a feeling you will remember forever.

Lake Louise is world famous for its turquoise lakes, the Victoria Glacier, soaring mountain backdrop, palatial hotel, and incredible hiking and skiing. Surrounded by a lifetime’s worth of jaw-dropping sights and adventures, Lake Louise is a rare place that must be experienced to be believed.

You couldn’t ask for more natural beauty every time you open your eyes.– Jade Anna Hughes of From the Inside blog

Lake Louise has long been a mecca for adventures. From sleigh rides, to dog sledding, paddling, hiking and more, there is something here for every level of adventurer. Visit our Winter in Lake Louise and Summer in Lake Louise pages for more on seasonal activities.

With endless adventures in every direction, making Lake Louise your basecamp is a great way to explore Banff National Park. Those looking to wake up with a lakeside view will love the luxury of the Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise. Seconds away from the lake is Deer Lodge - a historic lodge with many amenities, including a rooftop jacuzzi. If you’re looking for a cozy Lake Louise getaway, check out Paradise Bungalows - a family-owned operation that offers individual cabins for the full romantic mountain experience. The hamlet of Lake Louise also offers several accommodation options, including The Mountaineer Lodge and Lake Louise Inn. Baker Creek Mountain Resort is located just outside Lake Louise and offers a serene cabin-style accommodation.

Lake Louise is also home to some incredible restaurants - many of which practice a farm-to-table ethos, bringing together the best of Alberta meats, to pair with the incredible nearby growing regions in British Columbia. Sample authentic game meats at Deer Lodge, pair an incredible view with a beautiful Okanagan wine at The Fairview Dining Room or ride a gondola to indulge in cuisine at The Whitehorn Bistro. Other must-visit places include The Baker Creek Bistro, The Station Restaurant, Laggan’s Mountain Bakery The Lakeview Lounge and The Lake Agnes Tea House.

Locals' tip: during the summer, visit Lake Louise before 8 a.m. or after 7 p.m. for the best experience.

The hamlet of Lake Louise is located just off the Trans-Canada Highway (Highway 1). It has a small shopping centre, with a grocery store, bakery, deli, bar, sporting goods store, and visitor information centre. Lake Louise also offers a variety of restaurant and accommodation options. Smaller and quieter than the town of Banff, you really feel immersed in the mountains and nature when you spend time in Lake Louise.
