Getting to Banff and Lake Louise
With plenty of transportation options to get the whole family to and from the Banff and Lake Louise area, you can rest easy knowing you'll be able to plan a seamless journey with kids in tow from start to finish.
Learn about getting here.Day 01
Start your winter day the easy way by hopping on the Banff Airporter, a shuttle that brings you from the Calgary International Airport straight into Banff. The Rowley’s say, "it’s a seamless, stress-free ride with beautiful views the whole way".
Check into the Mount Royal Hotel, nestled right in the heart of downtown Banff. The Rowley’s loved how walkable everything was from here – restaurants, cafes, and even resort shuttle pickups.
For dinner head to Farm & Fire, a cozy spot serving locally sourced, wood-fired dishes. The Rowley’s recommend booking a table in advance – it’s a popular place for a reason!
Day 02
Fuel up with breakfast at Brazen, conveniently located in the Mount Royal Hotel. The Rowley’s say they, "loved it so much they returned nearly every morning".
Then gear, up for a winter road trip adventure with Radventures. The Rowley’s say this guided tour was, "one of the highlights," of their trip, and that it's, "perfect for families".
Wrap up the day with dinner at Bluebird, a stylish Banff steakhouse the Rowley’s rave about. Afterwards, treat the kids, and yourself to world famous ice cream at COWS.
Day 03
After another hearty breakfast at Brazen, hop on the Sunshine Village Shuttle from your hotel. The Rowley’s love Sunshine for its mix of big mountain energy and family-friendly vibes.
There’s terrain for every level, long scenic runs, and plenty of fun side hits the whole family can enjoy.
Post-ski, the Rowley’s recommend Eddie Burger for one of the best après meals in town. It’s a relaxed sports style bar serving juicy burgers, loaded poutines, and giant milkshakes.
Day 04
Start the day with a ride on the free Lake Louise Ski Resort Shuttle, a scenic 45-minute trip the Rowley’s loved.
The Rowley’s note that Lake Louise can be a bit more challenging, so plan accordingly if you’re skiing with little ones. But for confident riders, this mountain delivers.
For lunch Kuma Yama, located in the main lodge. Their pick? The ramen and sushi, especially the California roll, which their daughter Cashy declared, “the best she’s ever had”.
After a day on the mountain, unwind with a visit to the Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise. The Rowley’s say it’s a must see, from it’s grand architecture to the legendary lake views, it feels like stepping into a snow globe.
Day 05
Close to town and full of charm, Mt. Norquay is a hidden gem and the final stop in the SkiBig3 Trifecta. The Rowley’s say it’s, "ideal for families", with a great beginner area, a tubing zone, and steeper terrain for more advanced riders.
After hitting the slopes, stop by SkiBig3 Adventure Hub in downtown Banff to claim your Trifecta Challenge reward if you skied all three resorts just like the Rowley’s did.
Cap the day with dinner and a few games at High Rollers. The Rowley’s recommend making a reservation here since the bowling lanes fill up fast.
Day 06
Start with a big breakfast at Tooloulou’s, a local favourite with a New Orleans twist. The Rowley’s say the portions are huge and the vibe is unforgettable.
From there, head for a helicopter tour with Alpine Helicopters. The Rowley’s say this experience was nothing short of magical. The Mt. Assiniboine & Glacier Tour gives you a front row seat to the towering peaks, snow-covered valleys, and glaciers below. They even witnessed an avalanche from the air.
Back in Banff, spend the afternoon strolling through shops and exploring downtown Banff.
Day 07
Enjoy one last family breakfast in town at Brazen. Then take a final wander along Banff Avenue. While soaking in the mountain views, picking up a few souvenirs, and snapping that perfect family photo before heading home!
